Dr. Lea Monteran Receives the Prestigious Koshland Prize and Sir Charles Clore Postdoctoral Fellowship
Dr. Monteran, a postdoctoral fellow and the newest addition to the Samuels lab, was awarded with the very prestigious Koshland Prize as well as the Sir Charles Clore Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Twice a year the Weizmann School of Science (WSoS) awards the prestigious Koshland Prize to a limited number of postdoctoral fellows - encouraging excellent candidates to join the Weizmann Institute for their postdoctoral fellowship.
The namesake of said prize is Daniel E. Koshland Jr. (1920-2007) an eminent biochemist at the University of California at Berkeley, who was internationally known for his work on proteins and enzymes. Prof. Koshland served for many years on the International Board of the Weizmann Institute of Science and on its Scientific and Academic Advisory Committee, and also contributed generously to the Weizmann Institute, including the establishment of the fund that supports these Koshland Postdoctoral Awards.
Since its inception in 1999, the Sir Charles Clore Postdoctoral Fellowship has made grants to 250 fellows. Every year a select few of new Sir Charls Clore Postdoctoral Fellows are selected from among the Weizmann Institute’s excellent young researchers pursuing a career in the natural and exact sciences. The goal of this highly competitive fellowship is to promote outstanding scientists with the potential to make significant contributions to the advancement of science in Israel.
Dr. Lea Monteran completed her PhD at Prof. Neta Erez's lab in Tel Aviv University and then proceeded to join the Samuels Lab as a postdoctoral fellow.
