In the context of handling large maintenance orders for the Institute’s scientific equipment, costs incurred for maintenance of an instrument over years of care (outside warranty) are analyzed and compared to its original purchase cost. On the basis of this analysis, departments are advised as to the preferred maintenance methods for a particular instrument (taking into account its age, usage nature and frequency, complexity, etc.), with the analysis also serving as a basis for maintenance cost negotiations with various suppliers.
