Strategic Plan for Diversity and Inclusion at Weizmann Institute of Science (2024–2030)
Vision and Commitment
The Weizmann Institute of Science is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment, aligning with its core values of scientific leadership and excellence. Guided by the vision of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, the Institute strives to be a welcoming space for all, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender, nationality, or other personal identities. This strategic commitment aims to enhance diversity within the campus community, support underrepresented groups, and promote an inclusive culture of mutual respect and belonging.
Policy and Approach
Our strategy emphasizes proactive efforts to create equal opportunities for underrepresented minorities within the academy. It is led by the WIS Diversity and Inclusion Office, supported by a cross-institutional partnership among departments, and guided by Weizmann's ethical code, which underscores respect for all and prohibits discrimination. The policy promotes educational and professional opportunities for students and postdocs from underrepresented groups, specifically targeting Arabs, ultra-Orthodox jews, Ethiopian-Israelis, first-generation students, and geographically peripheral communities, as well as persons with disabilities.
Strategic Goals and Objectives
The strategic plan focuses on three key objectives over the next five years:
- Promoting diversity among graduate students
- Enhancing campus inclusivity and a safe environment
- Enhancing equal opportunities
These objectives will be achieved through a detailed work plan that includes various initiatives and activities, including summer program , outreach activities, courses , diversity training, and more.
The Weizmann Institute's commitment to diversity and inclusion underpins its scientific mission, recognizing that a diverse academic community enriches innovation and discovery. By fostering an inclusive environment, Weizmann aims to continue leading as a world-class institution, ensuring its contributions benefit humanity as a whole.
