Wikis
A Wiki is a Web site developed collaboratively by a community of users, allowing any user to add and edit content.
Wikis at the Weizmann Institute utilize the MediaWiki software Wikipedia is based on.
For general information about Wikis and live samples, refer to Wikipedia.
Features
- Supports Hebrew.
- Enables WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editing.
- Supports optional login requirement to view pages.
Usage Guidelines
The democratic nature of Wikis, which essentially allows anyone to edit pages, has unfortunately resulted in a phenomenon similar to e-mail spam, with the content of Wiki sites potentially manipulated and rendered unreliable by users with ill intent. To overcome this, we have established the following rules:
- Wikis are created either on our external Web server (www), which can be accessed outside the Institute, or on our internal Web server (www1), which can be accessed by Weizmann users only.
- Users must log into Wikis, to edit pages. On www1-hosted Wikis, anyone can create an account, whereas on www-hosted Wikis, only Wiki administrators are authorized to do so.
