Updates on the rotation schedule and a note on supporting our students

March 25, 2026

Dear Students and Postdocs,

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well.

We would like to share several important updates:

March 29–31 (Pre-Passover Period)

Please note that students and postdocs are expected to continue their research activities during these three days.

Any time off must be coordinated with your supervisor, as during a regular work week.

The extended Passover break announced for campus employees does not apply to students, who are considered trainees receiving a stipend.

In addition, the Passover break listed in the academic calendar applies only to coursework and does not extend to research activities conducted in laboratories. If you choose to be absent during these days for a personal vacation, you are required to report this time as half-day vacation leave.

Opening of the Second semester
As previously communicated, the opening of the second semester was postponed to April 12, 2026 (instead of March 15), due to the current security situation and Home Front Command guidelines. We expect teaching to take place on campus. At the same time, we continue to monitor Home Front Command guidelines closely and will update you if a hybrid format becomes necessary.

Please note that these guidelines do not apply to RW and MD-PhD students.

Rotation schedule (first-year MSc students in Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Physics)
The third rotation will be postponed by one week and will now begin on April 19, instead of April 12. The first week of the second semester, April 12–17, will be dedicated to wrapping up the second rotation that was cut short by the war.

As detailed above, the second semester has been extended by one week. The third rotation will now run through July 3 (instead of June 26), ensuring that the full rotation period is maintained.

For Physics students, the rotation will span the full semester, from April 12 to July 3.

Emergency financial assistance
We understand that this period may bring financial challenges for some of you. A call for emergency financial assistance related to the war is attached.

The support is available to both Israeli and international students and postdocs, in accordance with the eligibility criteria detailed in the call. It includes full information regarding eligibility and the application process.

The deadline for submitting applications is April 12, 2026.

We will continue to keep you informed of any further updates.

If you are facing specific challenges or have concerns, please reach out to us at dana.yanay@weizmann.ac.il. We will do our best to assist.
