Relocation Expenses

The Weizmann Institute assists postdoctoral fellows with the cost of relocation, in addition to reimbursement of airfare. Relocation costs may include charges for extra baggage, costs of shipping belongings, visa charges, travel insurance, etc..

Reimbursement for Expenses to Israel

If you are an international postdoctoral fellow or an Israeli returning from studies abroad, you are entitled to reimbursement for your relocation expenses to Israel, provided that you remain at the Weizmann Institute of Science for a period of at least one year. You are entitled to the following amounts:

  • A single postdoctoral fellow is entitled to the equivalent of up to $1,500. 
  • A postdoctoral fellow accompanied by a spouse and/or children is entitled to the equivalent of up to $3,000. This sum may include airfare for spouse and/or children (direct route in tourist class); shipment of personal luggage and belongings; and also visa fees for self, spouse and children. 
  • An Israeli postdoctoral fellow who returns from a lengthy period abroad may receive up to $1,500 (single) or $3,000 (with spouse and/or children), but must remain at the Institute for at least two years. 
  • Individuals who leave after less than two years are required to pay back half of this amount. The above-mentioned sum may include airfare for spouse and/or children (direct route in tourist class); and shipment of personal luggage and belongings.
  • The reimbursement is obligatory.

 

      Please note the following limitations regarding relocation expenses:

  • All refunds are subject to the submission of original receipts. In addition, you must sign a declaration indicating that you will not be reimbursed for this expense by any other source.
  • Requests for reimbursement (including all the necessary documentation) must be submitted within three months from the starting date of your postdoctoral training at the WIS.
  • You may submit the above-mentioned request only once.
  • Please note that should your spouse and/or children arrive at the WIS separately and more than three months after your arrival, then reimbursement for their expenses (up to the allowed sum) is subject to approval by the Head of your Research Group. Therefore,
  • Please make sure to discuss it with your Head of Research Group in advance.
  • If you remain at the Institute for less than a year, your relocation reimbursement will be adjusted to the length of your stay, unless your fellowship is terminated during the trial period.

 

Reimbursement for Expenses from Israel

If you are an international postdoctoral fellow who remains in the program for at least two years, you are also entitled to reimbursement for expenses incurred while relocating from Israel to your home country, or to the country of your next appointment . You are entitled to the following amounts:

  • A single postdoctoral fellow is entitled to the equivalent of up to $1,500. 
  • A postdoctoral fellow accompanied by a spouse and/or children is entitled to the equivalent of up to $3,000. This sum may include airfare for spouse and/or children (direct route in tourist class); and shipment of personal luggage and belongings.
