LGBTQ Association

The Weizmann Institute of Science LGBTQ association serves as the home of LGBTQ students on campus. We strive to provide a non-discriminatory environment for our community in our regular meetings. In addition, we adopt an active approach towards the inclusiveness of LGBTQ individuals on campus, promoting the national LGBTQ Students’ Association’s ‘Safe Campus’ initiative. The program includes periodic lectures intended for the general public concerning the LGBTQ community and the allocation of gender-neutral toilets. Our association serves as a place where (not only) students can feel free to express themselves as they really are.

The Weizmann Institute of Science LGBTQ association was founded in 2019, a pioneering initiative at a time when the issue of diversity was hardly discussed on campus. Since then, we have enjoyed increasing support from Institute management.

Our monthly meetings: every last Thursday of the month at 6PM at Cafe Alma!

Initiation of student prize for advancement of equality, diversity, and inclusion at WIS

This year the Diversity & Inclusion office together with the FGS have established the student prize for the advancement of equality, diversity, and inclusion at WIS.

First to win this prize is Dan Klein for his contribution and extensive activity for the past 3 years towards making the Weizmann Institute more inclusive of its LGBTQ community, both through visible campus-wide events, and through discussions with Institute management.

Pride Month 2022

1. Tel-Aviv Pride parade

This year over 50 Weizmann Institute students and postdocs made their way to Tel Aviv Pride Parade to celebrate diversity and the LGBTQ+ community.

2.  Pride Month Roundtable

Thinking about the LGBTQ community at WIS in the long term, the Diversity and Inclusion office has initiated a roundtable discussion to which everyone on campus was invited. We discussed the current challenges for the LGBTQ+ community at WIS. The participants brought many ideas to the table, and we look forward to working with the LGBTQ association and promoting these goals in the coming year.

3. Pride event -It's party time!

WIS favorites Suzi Boum and Gallina Port des Bras returned to the Institute for another fabulous pride event, with DJ Efrat Naaman. The theme this year was divas, and our two divas sure made us move!

July

A letter from Dan Klein, Head of the LGBTQ Association, as he steps down from his role of the past three years.

Pride Month 2023

It's our third year celebrating Pride Month at the Weizmann Institute! This year we started with a special screening of a documentary film and a panel with the creators, took part in Tel Aviv's pride parade, and finished with a colorful student party right following the pride parade in Rehovot. Activities were organized by the Diversity and Inclusion Office and the LGBTQ Association - and of course, none of it would be possible without the wonderful community of the Weizmann Institute of Science!
