Establishing a Centralized Repository of Tumor Models
The WIS Tumor Bank is a developing institutional resource designed to support cancer research across the Weizmann Institute. Our objective is to establish a shared repository of validated cancer cell lines and mouse tumor models generated by Weizmann laboratories. This centralized platform aims to facilitate access to high-quality models, promote collaboration between research groups, and streamline the sharing of biological materials.
About the Repository
We are currently in the process of collecting cell lines for inclusion in the Tumor Bank. Our goal is to develop a comprehensive repository comprising:
- Approximately 250 cancer cell lines (currently stored ~100 celll lines)
- Stored in liquid nitrogen tanks
- Validated by fingerprinting and mycoplasma testing
- Analyzed by RNA sequencing (RNA-seq)
- A subset of approximately 100 cell lines will be used to generate subcutaneous mouse tumor models, which will be:
- Analyzed by both RNA-seq and exome sequencing
- Documented with tumor growth curves
- Preserved as FFPE blocks, H&E stained, and digitally scanned
All data generated through this initiative will be made available to the Weizmann scientific community.
Benefits of Contributing Cell Lines
We invite laboratories across the institute to contribute to the Tumor Bank. Participating labs will receive:
- Three frozen vials in return for each vial deposited
- Free validation (fingerprinting and mycoplasma testing) and RNA-seq analysis of contributed cell lines
- Credit points toward future orders from the repository
- Simplified processes for sharing models between research groups
- An opportunity to contribute to a collaborative and valuable institutional resource
How to Contribute a cell line?
To contribute, please complete the cell line submission table and email it to:
📧 roni.oren@weizmann.ac.il
The Tumor Bank team will coordinate collection, storage, and analysis.
Accessing Cell Lines
Weizmann researchers can consult the Tumor Bank database to identify available models. All models will remain the property of the contributing laboratory. Requesting a cell line can be done via the link:
Access the Cell Line Request Page https://prodis.weizmann.ac.il/pls/htmldb/r/ws1/451/12
Upon request submission, the contributing PI will receive an email to approve or reject the request. Only after approval will the cells be distributed, and a handling fee will be charged.
