In 1994, the Law for the Protection of Animals - Experiments with Animals was passed by the Israeli Knesset. According to the Israeli law, institutions that use laboratory animals for research or instructional purposes must establish an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to oversee and evaluate all aspects of the institution's animal care and use program. Experiments with animals can be performed by qualified people only and must be certified by the President of Weizmann Institute. To qualify, all researchers must attend the Course on Ethics and Handling Lab Animals: the Course On Laboratory Animals At The Weizmann Institute Of Science. The course is held twice a year at the Feinberg Graduate School.
The current head of the Weizmann IACUC is Prof. Michael D. Walker.

Concerns Involving the Welfare of Animals: If you wish to report any concern involving the well-being of Weizmann animals, concern for human handlers, or concerns about protocol compliance, please contact IACUC by anonymous email
