- Experiments are conducted only on animals purchased from sources of specific breeding for research approved by the IACUC. Specifically, cats and dogs originating from pounds are never used for experimentation at the Weizmann Institute.
- Transportation, treatment and experimentation with experimental animals are carried out in strict accordance with the rules stated in the Weizmann Institute Experiments with Animals - SOPs by individuals who have received the IACUC approval.
- Experiments with animals are approved only if they are beneficial for the health of man and animals, and the welfare of human society.
- The smallest number of animals necessary for receiving relevant results is used. Alternative methods not involving experimental animals are consulted and considered before each experiment:

- Causing pain or discomfort to the animals is to be prevented and reduced as much as possible, at all times.
- Experiments involving pain or suffering to animals must be carried out under anesthesia or sedation. (See NIH guidlines on Animal Care and Use).
- Euthanasia is to be performed according to the instructions in the Weizmann Institute Experiments with Animals - SOPs and AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals.
