Adobe Creative Cloud is a suite of software applications and online services enabling graphics creation, editing, sharing and publishing.

The suite offers workgroups and individual users alike access to all Adobe desktop and other software applications, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Encore, Flash Pro, DreamWeaver, Acrobat and others. The Adobe Creative Cloud subscription also provides immediate access to any new software applications and upgrades.

Adobe’s cloud services enable you to build and publish Internet Web sites and mobile device applications.The Adobe Creative Cloud suite offers cloud storage and folder synchronization options, with each member of the Creative Cloud for Teams service provided 100 GBs of cloud storage, allowing you to truly effortlessly share ideas and concepts with your colleagues.

The ChemDraw software application is ideal for chemical structure building and editing. For more information on the application, see the Revvity Signals Web site.

The Weizmann Institute of Science has a site license for ChemDraw Professional 23, provided by Weizmann IT.

To Install ChemDraw:

1. Create an account for the Revvity Signals Download Center via the link below (be sure to use your Weizmann Institute e-mail address in the form):
   https://connect.revvitysignals.com/sitesubscription/Register.aspx?FlexeraAccountId=4669A167244.
2. Follow the instructions provided in the verification and account creation e-mails.
3. Access the Download Center, then use your credentials to log in.
4. On the List Entitlements page, see the activation code and download link.

EndNote is a commercial reference management software package that can be employed to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays and articles.

The most recent version of the application used at the Institute is 20. For more information, visit http://www.endnote.com.

Please note that Endnote can only be installed on computers owned by the Weizmann Institute.

Grammarly’s AI-powered applications help people communicate more effectively. Millions of users rely on Grammarly every day to make their messages, documents and social media posts clear, mistake-free and impactful.

Grammarly’s sophisticated AI not only corrects your grammatical mistakes. It also makes your writing more understandable, and helps you make the right impression on your readers, as per specific audience interests and goals. In addition, Grammarly is able to check the tone of your correspondence, provide synonym suggestions to make your text more legible and precise, and even check your documents for plagiarism. With Grammarly, you can rest assured that your writing is always held to the highest standard.

Registration

To register for Grammarly, perform the following:

1. Make sure that you’re connected to the internal Weizmann network.
2. Access the IT Service Catalog on your browser.
3. Log in with your Weizmann user ID and password.
4. Click Send to complete the registration.
5. Follow the instructions provided in the e-mail you will receive from Grammarly once registered.

Maple is a dynamic and easy-to-use software environment for mathematics, engineering and science classrooms. Much like Mathematica, it is a symbolic math and number-crunching engine.

Mathematica is a powerful software tool serving scientific research, engineering analysis and modeling, technical education and quantitative method application, with support for simple calculations, as well as for large-scale programing and interactive document preparation. For more information on the application, visit the Wolfram Web site.

To install Mathematica:

1. Open the Windows Start menu and click the Run command.
2. Enter \\wisfiler\collaboration\software\Mathematica and press the Enter key.
3. Open the folder version you need.
4. Double-click the ISO file, and open the Windows folder inside.
5. Run Setup.exe and follow the on screen instructions.
6. Once installation has been completed, run Mathematica.

Network activation:

When asked for the activation key, select Network in additional options and specify mathematica.weizmann.ac.il as the license server.

Standalone activation:

Should you require a standalone license, you will need to purchase one through the IT Service Catalog.
When asked for the activation key, insert the key as provided to you by Wolfram support.

Important note: when installing a new version of Mathematica, be sure to uninstall any previous version first.

MathType is a powerful interactive equation editor that lets you create mathematical notation for word processing, Web page content, desktop publishing, and presentation and e-learning content, as well as for TeX, LaTeX and MathML documents.

To register for a MathType license, access the IT Service Catalog.

MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming. Using MATLAB, you can analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models and applications.

The MATLAB language, tools and built-in math functions enable you to explore multiple approaches and reach solutions faster than you normally would with spreadsheets or such traditional programming languages as C/C++ and Java.

To install MATLAB:

1. Go to the MATLAB portal.
2. Click the Sign in to get started button.
3. Create a Mathworks account with your Weizmann e-mail address.
   If you already have a Mathworks account, log into it.
4. An Individual license will be linked to the account automatically.
5. Download the MATLAB installer.
6. During installation, use your Mathworks login credentials to activate the software.

To renew the license of an existing MATLAB installation: 

1. On the Home tab, in the Resources section, click Help > Licensing > Update Current Licenses. MATLAB displays a list of all your MathWorks licenses on this computer, with their status.
2. Select the Individual license and click Update. MATLAB contacts MathWorks to retrieve the most current version of the license file for the license.

Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's latest family of Office productivity software products, and related collaboration and cloud-based services.

New Institute computers come pre-installed with this latest Office suite, which introduces a range of new features and some key benefits over other Office versions, as well as frequent application updates that keep you constantly up-to-date.

The Weizmann Institute’s licensing agreement with Microsoft now grants all Institute employees and students access to Office Online services.

Office Online services enable online browser access to all standard Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote), as well as to the OneDrive service, without the need for software installation.

Instructions for use

Office Online services are available on all major platforms, as follows:

• To access Office Online via a computer, enter your Weizmann Institute user e-mail address and password on the http://portal.office.com portal, and click the desired application’s icon.
• For access via tablets and smartphones, install the desired mobile app from your device’s app store, and enter your Weizmann Institute user e-mail address and password on first launch of the app.

OneDrive is a Microsoft cloud storage and file sharing service implemented at the Weizmann Institute.

Origin is a data analysis and technical graphics software application. For information on Origin features, visit www.originlab.com.

Note that the software license must be renewed every two years, by December 31.

Users are required to use this link to enroll.

You may enroll for either a Standalone or a Network version, as follows:

• To enroll for a Standalone license (requires special justification), you must provide a budget number or select your faculty administrator.
• To enroll for a Network license:
  • You need to enter your IP address (must be a static IP).

Prophy is a software package designed to help analyze texts, such as papers and proposals, and suggest reviewers for these texts. Furthermore, the software can evaluate a researcher profile, compare a researcher to relevant peers, and suggest reviewers for this researcher. The software is available to Weizmann users under an Institute site license, and its use will be free of charge during the first year.

Pymol is an open-source molecular graphics system for visualization, animation, editing and publication-quality imagery generation. The system is Windows-, macOS- and Linux-compatible, is scriptable and can be extended using the Python language.

Please note that PyMOL can only be installed on computers owned by the Weizmann Institute.

GraphPad Prism is a comprehensive software tool tailored for scientific research, combining robust statistical analysis with advanced graphing capabilities. It offers an extensive library of analyses, including t-tests, ANOVA, linear and nonlinear regression, and survival analysis - all presented in clear language to facilitate appropriate analysis choices.

Prism's user-friendly interface allows for efficient data organization and real-time updates to graphs and results, streamlining the research workflow. Additionally, it provides numerous customization options for creating publication-quality graphs.

SnapGene is a proprietary software application designed to facilitate the planning and documentation of molecular biology experiments. For more information on the application, see the SnapGene Web site.

Weizmann Institute computing tender-authorized hardware suppliers are required to deliver computer systems as per our specific requirements.

All computer systems arriving at the Information Technology Department installation lab are to be supplied with a software Starter Kit, including a fully licensed operating system and all standard software applications supported by the Institute.

Starter Kit software is to be updated once a month, as required. The current version of the package features the following:

• Windows 11 Enterprise, 64-bit
• Microsoft Office 365, with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote and OneDrive.
• Google Chrome as the default browser.
• Tafnit.
• Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus.
• Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
• Zoom.
• Cisco Jabber.
• SentinelOne.
• inSync Backup.
• Cisco AnyConnect/Secure Client (as per organizational unit).
• Check Point Endpoint Security VPN (laptops only).

New PCs purchased at the Institute will come preinstalled with Windows 11, and others can be upgraded as per the following minimum PC requirements:

• Support for Microsoft KMS (Key Management Server) based activation (we generally recommend against upgrading PCs purchased prior to January of 2019).
• A minimum of 4 GBs of RAM.
• Availability of Windows 11-compatible drivers for specific hardware peripherals (you may verify this with the Service Desk).
• Windows 11 compatibility of the software applications in use (for a list of incompatible software, or to check compatibility of a specific software application with Windows 11, please contact the Service Desk).

Currently upgrading to Window 11 requires reinstalling the computer, make sure you have a validated backup beforehand.

Critical Windows security updates are distributed monthly and will be available for installation for 7 days, beginning with the 3rd Wednesday of every month.

You will be able to install the updates manually during these days, and we recommend you go ahead and perform the installation to avoid any interference with your work.

On the 4th Tuesday of every month, at 17:00, computers without the security updates will receive them automatically, and may restart without prior notice.

Update Installation Notices/Guidelines

Notifications on security update availability will appear on your personal computer at fixed times, as detailed below:

1. On the 3rd Wednesday of every month, the following notification will appear.
   
   
   
   This notification will allow you to install the update immediately, or to postpone it by selecting the Snooze option.
   
   It may appear a few more times during the 24-hour period prior to the mandatory install, unless the update has already been performed.
    
2. On the 4th Tuesday of every month, the notification shown below will be issued.
   
   
   
   In the final 15 minutes, the notification will no longer offer the possibility of delay, following which the computer will reboot, and the updates will be installed automatically.
   
   
    
3. The update process can manually be initiated from the System Tray at any time during the week.
   
   
   
   You may alternatively enter the Software Center and select Updates.
