Brief

The ethical perspectives and dilemmas associated with geoscience research and practice in relation to humanity interaction with the Earth systems.

The new field of geoethics deals with the ethical perspectives and dilemmas associated with geoscience research and practice in relation to humanity interaction with the Earth systems. Geoethics focus on the responsibilities that professional geoscientists have towards the society and the Earth systems. Our group is performing the first educational research on geoethics aspects. We explore the factors that influence the attitudes of geoscience students towards geoethics and develop learning activities that focus on geo-ethical, social and cultural issues. These geoethics learning activities are related to various Earth science phenomena and dilemmas and are delivered as part of selected academic courses in the Earth science programs of Israeli Universities. The educational activities developed during the study are available online for the use of the Israeli and international geoscience community. This allows Earth science lecturers to integrate geoethics aspects into their existing courses.
