Postdoctoral Fellowships

Regular Postdoctoral Fellows

Fellowship

The WIS regular postdoctoral fellowship is uniform and it is not dependent on the field of research, the marital status, the location of residence, or on any other criteria. Currently, the gross sum of the regular monthly fellowship at WIS is 9,408 NIS. For Information concerning deductions you may write to the Fellowships & HR Coordinator.

The WIS fellowship is funded either by the host or by a Dean of Faculty Fellowship (the funding can also be shared by both sources). Candidates should contact a potential host or apply for the Dean of Faculty Fellowship respectively.

Travel Allowance

In addition to the fellowship, regular postdoctoral fellows are entitled to a yearly travel allowance of $ 2,000.

Senior Postdoctoral Fellows

Fellowship

Senior postdoctoral fellows receive a monthly fellowship that is 25% higher than a regular postdoctoral fellowship.

Travel Allowance

Senior postdoctoral fellows are entitled to a yearly travel allowance that is 50% higher than the travel allowance of regular postdoctoral fellows.

External (competitive) Fellowships

According to WIS policy external (competitive) fellowships either replace the regular WIS fellowship or fund part of it. In other words, if the level of an external fellowship is higher than the regular WIS fellowship then the postdoc is entitled to keep the balance. However, if the level of the extermal fellowship is lower than the regular WIS fellowship then the student is still paid the difference by the Institute.

Travel Allowance

What Does It Cover

  • Flight expenses, room and board, and registration dues at local and international scientific conferences.
  • International courses, such as winter or summer schools.
  • Visits to laboratories and research groups abroad for the purpose of research collaboration.

Proportional Allocation of the Travel Allowance

The fiscal year at the Weizmann Institute starts on October 1 and ends on the following September 30. If you start your training after October 1, you will receive a partial allocation of funds, proportional to the remaining time until September 30.

Expiration of the Travel Allowance

Eligibility to use the travel allowance expires on the day that your postdoctoral training period ends. In other words, the money is designated to cover expenses only for eligible travel costs incurred during the training period.

In case of an External Fellowship

Travel allowances for holders of external fellowships will be dealt with in the same manner as the fellowship itself. The FGS travel allowance will not be provided to fellows holding an external fellowship with a travel allowance that is higher than the corresponding FGS travel allowance. However, if the travel allowance provided by the external fellowship is lower than the corresponding FGS allowance, the Feinberg Graduate School will pay the balance.

External Fellowships

External fellowships (competitive and non-competitive) are a substitute for the regular Feinberg Graduate School fellowship. FGS fellowships and an external fellowship may not be awarded simultaneously. In the case of international postdoctoral fellows, external fellowships may be higher than the regular Feinberg Graduate School fellowship. However, if an external fellowship is lower than the regular Feinberg Graduate School fellowship, the Feinberg Graduate School will pay the balance.
