In Memoriam: Prof. Ora Kedem (1924-2026), whose discoveries contributed to the ascent of the water desalination industry
June 4, 2026
Prof. Ora Kedem, a pioneer of membrane science whose work helped shape modern desalination and water treatment, died in February at the age of 101. Born and raised in Vienna during the rise of the Nazi Party, she swam to the shores of British Mandate Palestine at age 16 as a survivor of the doomed Patria, and went on to become a world-leading scientist in her field.
