Prof. Avraham Levy in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences

Amit is a PhD student who is researching DNA repair and genome evolution in plants, under the supervision of Prof. Avraham Levy in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Weizmann Institute. He has a BSc in agriculture from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MSc from the Weizmann Institute of Science.

In his current research, he is conducting a genome-wide analysis of double-strand DNA break repair mechanisms and how they affect plant genome evolution. Working with the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, the research group is inducing DNA damage randomly across its genome in various genetic backgrounds and utilizing deep sequencing to analyze the repair patterns.

Amit is passionate about urban nature and ecology, and likes to spend his free time outdoors hiking and bird watching.
