Green Building

We are committed to maintaining and building high-performance, sustainable, healthy green buildings. Moving forward, new buildings on campus will be designed and built according to LEED standards, the world’s most widely used green building rating system.

Green Building Practices

We have implemented a range of green building practices across campus, including:

  • Green roofs and vertical green gardens – there are two green roofs (on the Raoul and Graziella de Picciotto Building and the Nella and Leon Benoziyo Building for Biological Sciences), and there are three green walls on campus.
  • Smart ventilation systems – have been installed in some lab buildings to optimize ventilation
  • Efficient air conditioning and lighting sensors – have been installed in various buildings
  • LEED certification – new buildings are to be designed and built according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards
  • Indoor air quality – new buildings are designed to meet the highest national and international standards for indoor air quality, including the use of non-toxic building materials, where possible
