Ben
Shenhar (Alumni)

Prof. Uri Alon’s lab, Department of Molecular Cell Biology

Ben is a PhD student at the Weizmann Institute's Department of Molecular Cell Biology, where he studies the fundamental principles and mechanisms of aging in humans and various species under the supervision of Prof. Uri Alon. He has a BSc in Physics and was in the Amirim Interdisciplinary Honors Program in the Humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and has an MSc in Physics from the Weizmann Institute. Prior to his transition to systems biology, Ben researched neutron star mergers in Prof. Eli Waxman’s theoretical astrophysics group in the Department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics at the Weizmann Institute.

In his PhD research, Ben employs mathematical modeling to understand aging as a process of damage accumulation in organisms. He is currently focusing on two key projects: the first investigates the influence of heritability on longevity and mortality, while the second aims to comprehend the diversity of aging trajectories across different species.
