Prof. Binghai Yan, Department of Condensed Matter Physics

Daniel Kaplan is a PhD student in the group of Binghai Yan in the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Weizmann Institute. He has a BSc in Physics and BSc in Materials Science Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and an MSc in Condensed Matter Physics from the Weizmann Institute.

Daniel's research focuses on the interaction of light and magnetic materials. Some novel materials exhibit nontrivial geometric properties, at the quantum level, affecting how electrons move inside them and their coupling to light. When light is shined on these materials, the resulting current is larger, less susceptible to dirt and disorder in the sample. The new materials are of significant engineering and experimental interest, with a major goal of using them in solar cells and light-energy harvesting devices.
