Khaykelson (Alumni)
Daniel Khaykelson is a PhD student at the Department of Molecular Chemistry and Material Science at the Weizmann Institute in Prof. Boris Rybtchinski’s group, co-supervised by Dr. Lothar Houben from the electron-microscopy unit. He received his BSc in Chemistry and MSc in the Chemistry Nano program from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
In his PhD research, he is working on non-crystalline ("amorphous") materials, organic crystallization processes, and the development of microscopy tools to study both. He currently works with non-crystalline Indomethacin, a pharmaceutical molecule, to shed light on its structure-stability relation. Understanding this relationship will improve drug design with non-crystalline active materials, resulting in higher bioavailability and lower pharmaceutical water pollution. To do so, he is working on improving and developing analysis methods for electron microscopy measurements of non-crystalline materials.
Outside of his research, David tutors at the Davidson's Institute Ofakim Gap Year Program and volunteers with the Jewish National Fund.
