Nissenbaum (Alumni)

Prof. Yinon Rudich’s lab, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Dori Nissenbaum is a PhD student at the Earth and Planetary Sciences department of Weizmann Institute, conducting research on air pollution in the lab of Prof. Yinon Rudich. He is a graduate of the Brakim excellence program, a joint academic initiative of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Technion- Israel Institute of Technology, where he received a BSc and MSc in Mechanical Engineering.

In his PhD studies, Dori leads the technological development team focused on the scientific research of air pollution. Using a drone-based platform developed by the team, equipped with innovative optical sensors and cutting-edge technologies, they create 3D maps of various air pollutants in unprecedented resolution. He is currently focused on investigating an intriguing trend in the vertical diurnal change of tropospheric ozone and nitrogen dioxide concentrations. Recently, he collaborated on a project involving the classification and prediction of extreme dust events in the East Mediterranean region using satellite images and deep learning techniques.

Outside his academic pursuits, Dori serves as a tutor to gifted children at the Davidson Institute. He is enthusiastic about sustainability, robotics, space technologies, and everything in between.
