Prof. Yinon Rudich’s lab, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Eli is a PhD student at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Weizmann Institute, in Prof. Yinon Rudich’s group. He has a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Technion Institute of Technology and MSc in Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute. Previously, he was an R&D engineer at a biomedical diagnostics start-up company that developed wearable respiratory sensors.

In his current PhD research, Eli collects data from ambient air sampling systems and uses statistical analysis models to break down and identify the sources of pollution affecting a particular measuring station. His primary focus is to validate the use of small-scale instruments in the apportionment of sources and to show how they can be deployed in sensor networks or on mobile platforms to track major polluters, identify pollution 'hotspots,' and assess their effect on public health. An ongoing collaboration with the SPARTAN network and NASA's MAIA mission uses the sampling station to validate a satellite's remote sensing capabilities, designed to find correlations between aerosol concentrations and their health effects.
