Dr. Sivan Refaely-Abramson’s lab, Department of Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science

Galit Cohen was previously a PhD student studying computational chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Sivan Refaely-Abramson in the Department of Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science at the Weizmann Institute of Science. She holds a dual BSc in Life and Earth Sciences from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MSc in Computational Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science under the supervision of Prof. Leeor Kronik.

In her PhD work, Galit applied and developed first principles-based theoretical methodologies to study the dynamical properties of excited state particles created after photo-excitation in functional materials. Specifically, she studied the role played by nuclei vibrations in determining the electronic properties of the material, and their effect in energy transfer phenomena. Understanding the underlying mechanisms and physics shaping these phenomena and their relation to material atomistic structure is crucial for efficient material design and improved functionality in energy transport and energy harvesting applications.
