Prof. Gad Asher, Department of Biomolecular Sciences

Ippei Kawano is a PhD student in the Department of Biomolecular Sciences at the Weizmann Institute, where he explores the interactions between circadian clocks and O2/CO2 biology under the supervision of Prof. Gad Asher. He obtained his MD from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.

Ippei's research focuses on deciphering how oxygen and carbon dioxide influence circadian clock proteins and organismal physiology, especially metabolism. To this end, he combines molecular biology techniques with transcriptomics and high-throughput lipidomics to study circadian metabolic changes in mice. Since disturbances in these gases often accompany pulmonary diseases related to smoking and air pollution, his work is particularly relevant for developing potential future therapeutic strategies.
