Prof. Michal Leskes lab, Department of Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science

Isaac Buchine is a PhD student researching materials for lithium-ion batteries under the supervision of Prof. Michal Leskes in the Department of Molecular Chemistry and Materials Science at the Weizmann Institute. He holds a BSc in Biophysics and MSc in the Chemistry of Materials from Bar-Ilan University.

In his PhD work, Isaac attempts to answer complex questions about next-generation battery materials. These materials incorporate artificial protective coatings to prevent the degradation of electrodes, which boosts the battery’s performance. However, little is known about the link between the chemistry of these coatings and the enhanced performance. Isaac currently focuses on revealing the effect of these coatings’ interfacial chemistry on the functionality of electrodes, with the aim to enable the design of more effective electrode coatings. To achieve this, he both develops and implements state-of-the-art Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques to answer his questions.
