Julia Eva
Fortmueller (Alumni)
Julia Eva Fortmueller was a PhD student researching biomaterials under the supervision of Dr. Filipe Natalio in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the Weizmann Institute and currently she works under the supervision of Prof. Asaph Aharoni. She has a MSc degree in Biotechnology from the Technical University Graz, Austria.
In her PhD work, Julia is implementing a biomaterial-based precision delivery platform. Her research aims to combine systems pathways with efficient delivery of precursor payloads into plants to create tailored properties. Specifically, she is working towards the biological fabrication of cotton fibers using fully grown Gossypium hirsutum plants.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Julia is actively involved in a collaboration with a local industrial designer in Israel. Together, they are working to implement new biomaterials derived from invasive species, such as Acacia trees.
