Marc Scherer was previously a PhD student researching computational protein design methodology under the supervision of Prof. Sarel Fleishman in the Department of Biomolecular Sciences at Weizmann Institute. He has a BSc and MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Wuerzburg, Germany. 

In his PhD work, Marc used computational and experimental methods to answer key questions about the structure-function-dynamics relationships in proteins. He focused on improving central properties of dynamic biosensor proteins and enzymes required for green chemical production. Besides his work as a scientist, Marc was involved in a rural landscape conservation project in his hometown, in an effort to strengthen the interrelations of research, society and politics to improve the sustainability of agricultural practices.
