Prof. Omer Yaffe in the Department of Chemical and Biological Physics

Maya is a PhD student developing a novel Raman system for the investigation of polaronic effects in perovskites and semiconductor materials, under the supervision of Prof. Omer Yaffe in the Department of Chemical and Biological Physics at the Weizmann institute. She has a BSc in Materials Engineering & Chemistry from Tel Aviv University and MSc in Chemistry from the Weizmann institute.

In her current research, Maya focuses on the direct observation of polarons on perovskite materials, which are significant for the development of high-efficiency solar cells. Specifically, she is investigating BiVO4, a material known for its potential in water-splitting technology, which is essential for sustainable hydrogen production. This work can provide the knowledge to improve the material's efficiency, thereby enhancing its viability for real world applications in renewable energy devices.

Outside the lab, Maya is part of the community team in her small village, where she helps integrate new members into the community.
