Dr. Elena Meirzadeh, Department of Molecular Chemistry and Material Science

Rotem is a PhD student working on the development of new covalent crystalline materials for environmental applications, under the supervision of Dr. Elena Meirzadeh in the Department of Molecular Chemistry and Material Science at the Weizmann Institute. Rotem has a BSc in Materials Science Engineering and Chemistry from Tel Aviv University, and an MSc in Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute.

In her PhD research, Rotem focuses on synthesizing high-quality crystalline covalent organic frameworks using solid-state techniques and molecular precursors, thereby eliminating the need for environmentally harmful solvents commonly used in their synthesis. This innovative approach aims to produce large single crystals that enable precise structural characterization, thereby establishing a direct relationship between structure and function, which remains a significant challenge for conventional synthesis methods used today.

Rotem is involved with the WIS Green Forum, which develops sustainability initiatives at the Weizmann Institute, such as donations and swap events.
