Samuel is a PhD student in the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at Weizmann Institute, exploring sustainable food system transformations under the supervision of Prof. Ron Milo. He completed a joint undergraduate and master’s degree at the University of Oxford in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry.
In his research , Samuel uses ‘back-of-the-envelope’ calculations and global systems models to quantify the environmental impacts and economic viability of food system changes, such as producing food from microbes or vertical farms. He is also quantifying the impact of including environmental costs in food prices to understand the true cost of food production and encourage more sustainable eating habits.
Beyond his research, Samuel enjoys hiking and eating new types of food.
