Exotic Quantum States at the Edge:
More information Time 11:15 - 12:30Location Edna and K.B. Weissman Building of Physical SciencesLecturer DANIEL LOSS
University of Basel, SwitzerlandOrganizer Faculty of PhysicsContact Abstract Show full text abstract about I will present recent results on exotic quantum states in l...» I will present recent results on exotic quantum states in low-dimensional condensed matter systems with topological phases. These states can emerge as bound states in one and two dimensions in the presence of spin orbit interaction or spatially periodic magnetic fields, in RKKY systems forming intrinsic spin helices, and with and without superconductivity. Examples of such bound states are fractionally charged fermions of Jackiw-Rebbi type, Majorana fermions, and parafermions in the presence of strong electron-electron interactions. I will discuss candidate materials such as semiconducting nanowires, graphene nanoribbons , atomic magnetic chains or magnetic semiconductors. -
